PROF. Purnomo Yusgiantoro

Indonesia’s former Minister of Defense in 2009 – 2014 and Minster of Energy and Mineral Resources in 2000 – 2009



Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro was Indonesia’s Minister of Defense from 2009 – 2014 and Minster of Energy and Mineral Resources from 2000 – 2009. He’s also President, General Secretary and Governor of OPEC in Vienna, Austria. He has received various domestic and foreign recognition with a total of 33 honours, medals, and the Maha Putra Adipradana award, the second highest honour to civilians for services to the nations.

Prof. Yusgiantoro’s been involved in various institutions, especially those in the energy and defence sectors. He contributed as the Founding Board of The Indonesia Institute for Energy Economic (IIEE)s; Vice Chair of the Advisory Board for The Institution of Engineers Indonesia; as well as Chair of the Advisory Board for Society of Indonesian Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

He’s the Founder of Purnomo Yusgiantoro Center (PYC), the independent research organisation devoted to the development of Indonesia’s energy sector. He remains active in academics, co-founding the Indonesia Defence University (Universitas Pertahanan, UNHAN) and is a Professor of Energy Economics at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro has written articles, journals, publications and books including Energy Economics: Theory and Application (2018); Defense Economics: Theory and Practice (2014); Indonesian Economics (2010); International Financial Management: Theory and Practice (2004), Footprints of Time: A Glimpse of Indonesia (2009).
